An-Najah Organizes a Workshop on “Scientific Research Policies on Higher Education institutions in Palestine”

An-Najah's EU-Projects Coordinator office, in cooperation with the National Erasmus+ Office in Palestine, organized a ‎virtual workshop on “Scientific Research Policies on Higher Education institutions in Palestine”

On 15th December 2020, NEO Director/ Dr. Nedal Al Jayousi, together with Dr. Imad Brik, EU Project Coordinator at An-Najah University; launched the fifth local activity of the Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs).

Dr. Jayousi opened the seminar, welcomed participants, commended the great efforts that HERE members do for the development of Palestinian Higher Education being a consultative arm to the Ministry of Higher Education. Dr. Jayousi also introduced the topic of the seminar and its importance for the development of Higher Education Institutions which is entitled: “Scientific Research Policies on Higher Education institutions in Palestine”. This workshop was attended by a representative from the Ministry of Education; Dr. Ahmad Matar head of the National Center for Educational Research and Development team of National Erasmus Office in Palestine; NEO Programme Officer – Ms. Iman AlHemri and NEO Office Manager – Ms. Nashwa Darwish; as well as HERE members, and academic and administrative staff from AnNajah University, Hebron University, and other local universities.

Dr. Ibrik Presented in detail the Status of Intellectual Properties Policies (IPPs) in some Palestinian Universities presenting a study conducted on Palestinian University on this issue. Dr. Yahya Saleh, who is an expert in this area, the Director of AnNajah Business Innovation & Partnerships (NaBIC) at AnNajah National University presented Intellectual Property policy at An-Najah University; its objectives and criteria. Besides, Dr. Ayman Sultan, the rector of Polytechnic University added fruitful information about Intellectual Property in general and in Polytechnic University in particular. Dr. Sultan presented in details about the ownership of intellectual property, the rights and obligations that ownership of IP should encompass, and how the revenues from IP should be distributed.

Then, Dr. Mohammad Matar presented about Educational Research, and how should all work in developing this type to research. Dr. Matar highlighted the retreating of this type of research comparing to other fields in Palestine, and what the Ministry is working on to revive this type of research.

The seminar was followed up by a general discussion and recommendation for Intellectual Property at Palestinian Universities; Dr. Jayousi concluded the event, asked participants to do the evaluation and asked participants to express recommendations and suggestions; especially during the pandemic of COVID-19, to be sent to the Minister of Higher education.
