Workshop about Research in Renewable Energy

15/06/2020

Within Med-EcoSuRe Project activities in Palestine, The Director of Energy Research Center at An-Najah University, Dr. Imad Brik, participated in a workshop that aims at encouraging research in renewable energy field organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The workshop put forward a list of recommendations that included improving the educational curriculum for the technical fields concerned with renewable energy. It also suggested launching new MA and PhD programs in that discipline as the University has recently become authorized by the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission (AQAC) to offer a new PhD degree in ‘Sustainable Energy Technology’.

This program will be available in the fall semester 2020/2021, and it includes courses that deal with basics of energy engineering, sustainability science, usage of the traditional energy and its impact on the environment, scientific development of renewable energy, and many other topics.

Dr.Imad also presented Med-EcoSuRe project to the participants and mentioned that the MedEcoSuRe project is rooted in the key role that Mediterranean universities have ‎to contribute to ‎environmental development and combat climate change. The ‎project brings together researchers and ‎stakeholders to build a common ‎understanding of eco-sustainable building renovation issues and ‎aims to ‎empower the regional knowledge-to-action process, starting by the university’s ‎immediate ‎neighborhood, which is the university building. ‎And a “Living Lab” will be established to propose energy renovation solutions to ‎university energy ‎managers based on decision-support tools that take into account ‎social, economic, and environmental ‎aspects.‎

Med-EcoSuRe (Mediterranean University as Catalyst for Eco-Sustainable ‎Renovation) is a project ‎funded by the European Union, under the ENI CBC MED ‎programme. ‎
